Component Low Density Lipoprotein Calculated

Component Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) Calculator

Introduction & Importance

Component low density lipoprotein (LDL), often referred to as “bad cholesterol,” plays a significant role in cardiovascular health. High LDL levels can contribute to plaque buildup in your arteries, increasing the risk of heart disease and stroke.

How to Use This Calculator

  1. Enter your total cholesterol level in milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL).
  2. Enter your high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol level in mg/dL.
  3. Click the “Calculate” button.

Formula & Methodology

The Friedewald equation is used to estimate LDL cholesterol levels:

LDL = Total Cholesterol – HDL – (Triglycerides / 5)

Since triglycerides are not required for this calculator, we use the simplified version:

LDL ≈ Total Cholesterol – HDL
