Affordable Care Act Premium Calculator

The Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare, has made health insurance more accessible and affordable for millions of Americans. Understanding your potential premium is crucial for planning your healthcare expenses. Our Affordable Care Act premium calculator helps you estimate your premium based on your age, income, and smoking status.

  1. Select your age from the dropdown menu.
  2. Enter your estimated household income.
  3. Select the number of smokers in your household.
  4. Click the “Calculate” button to see your estimated premium.

Our calculator uses the following formula to estimate your ACA premium:

Premium = (Income / FPL) * (Age Factor + Tobacco Surcharge) - Tax Credits

Where:

  • Income is your estimated household income.
  • FPL is the Federal Poverty Level for your household size.
  • Age Factor is based on your age and the second lowest cost silver plan in your area.
  • Tobacco Surcharge is an additional cost for smokers.
  • Tax Credits are based on your income and reduce your premium.
